the birthday

This year we had multiple celebrations for Theo's third birthday, trying to fit in as many people as possible and without having a big party. He had two cakes, sang Happy Birthday numerous times, had three days of present unwrapping and was generally lavished lots of attention. Like it should be!

On Saturday we visited Puxton Park with his little friends so that they could all enjoy having fun together and running around without having to invade our house or fork out money hiring somewhere. There is soft play, animals, a mini train, adventure playgrounds and a few little rides all of which kept them pretty entertained despite it being pretty hectic and very windy! We stopped by the restaurant to warm ourselves with coffee and hot chocolate (and made a mental note just to steer clear of the other cafe and visit the restaurant instead next time for a much quieter and relaxed atmosphere!) and gave Theo his cake!

Sunday arrived and we had plans to meet with my Dad and family and also Rob's parents. We went for a lovely Sunday Roast at a pub nearby, where Theo opened a few small presents and returned home for cake number two (which I'd made that morning!) We enjoyed a cup of tea, ate the cake and then ventured out again to go bowling!

As usual the weekend flew by, and we spent Sunday evening wrapping presents and putting up a few decorations ready for his actual birthday on Monday. We all got up in the morning and went downstairs to open presents, and with Theo being a seasoned present opener he'd demolished the small pile in a few minutes! He'd already seen his main present, a bike, as he was there to test it out when I went to look at it and got a bargain through gumtree. The rest of his presents were puzzles picked up in charity shops and a Mr. and Mrs Potato head bought on ebay before Christmas!

We got dressed and headed out early to meet Yaya and Andy for an Ikea breakfast and a play before going into the centre to visit the SS Great Britain. The weather was pretty terrible so it was good to plan something that was mainly indoors, and we'd been wanting to visit for a long time. The great thing about the SS Great Britain is that once you've paid to go once then you can visit as many times as you like in the following year!

Theo went to nursery for a few hours in the afternoon before we headed home for more cake and presents. I'm pretty sure he had a very fun couple of days, seeing his friends and lots of family! He certainly seems to get the concept of birthdays, and whats not to love...cake, presents, attention and fun days out!

ps Theo's amazing jumper is from Tootsa MacGinty and is in the sale! (I want them all!)

    1. It was! I know what you mean, it all comes at once for Theo and me too! Think we'll have to introduce half birthdays perhaps!
